Focus RS spied flexing its muscles on the Nurburgring

A test mule of the 2016 Ford Focus RS has been spied tackling the Nürburgring Nordschleife in Germany.

The last hurrah for the current generation Focus before an all-new model arrives in 2017 will be the range-topping RS set for a 2016 introduction. The five-door hot hatchback will continue to feature a front-wheel drive layout receiving power from a six-speed manual transmission along with a mechanical limited slip differential to prevent torque steer. It will likely make use of an upgraded RevoKnuckle front suspension matched with a lowered and stiffer chassis to provide an optimal sporty feel.

Power is expected to come from a four-cylinder 2.3-liter EcoBoost turbocharged gasoline engine sourced from the new Mustang. Output will be set somewhere in the region of 330 PS (243 kW) so the new Focus RS will be 30 PS (22 kW) more powerful than its predecessor which had a larger 5-cylinder 2.5-liter motor.

Set to become a global model, the Ford Focus RS will carry an estimated starting price of 27,000 GBP (about 44,700 USD / 33,900 EUR).
