2016 Focus RS test laps op de Ring

A mule of the 2016 Ford Focus RS has been spied undergoing heavy testing around the Nürburgring.

Retaining a front-wheel drive layout, Ford’s range-topping Focus RS can be seen here testing in ST clothing at the ‘Ring ahead of a launch programmed in 2016, only a year before an all-new Focus is expected. Its heart and soul will be a 4-cylinder, 2.3-liter EcoBoost engine sourced from the Mustang with output estimated to stand at around 330 PS (243 kW) which would make it 30 PS (22 kW) more powerful than the previous variant.

A six-speed manual gearbox will be in charge of sending all those ponies to the front wheels where there will be a RevoKnuckle suspension. A mechanical limited slip differential along with other tweaks will prevent torque steer and other similar issues which usually appear on high-powered FWD cars.

The 2016 Ford Focus RS will likely carry a starting price of approximately 27,000 GBP (46,100 USD / 34,100 EUR) and will be available in North America. In Europe at least, it will have to face some serious competition, including from the forthcoming Civic Type R which just like the Focus RS has been a very long time in the making.

Lekkere geluiden, dat in ieder geval wel!
