Mattias Ekström kampioen WRX 2016. Een mooie, zeer spannende race, kansen voor Bakkerud leken er afgelopen wekend niet in te zitten en kreeg door schade aan zijn Focus RS RX zelfs uitlaatgassen binnen en leek hier knap beroerd door te zijn geworden, na een medische check bleek alles oké te zijn.
Een persoonlijke weddenschap tussen Ekström & Bakkerud won laatst genoemde dan weer wel, hahaha…lees het elders op deze pagina.

In de eerste jaar van deelname aan de WRX 4e worden met de geheel nieuwe Ford Focus RS RX, is zeker niet iets om je voor te schamen, het kan je juist de drive geven volgend seizoen nog beter te worden, Andreas Bakkerud heeft de talenten hiervoor in huis, dat heeft hij inmiddels duidelijk gemaakt.

Congrats to my Hoonigan Racing teammate Andreas Bakkerud for taking 3rd overall today at #EsteringRX – in a racecar filled with fumes! After taking some damage in the first corner, the car’s cockpit filled with smoke, which Andreas had to race in for 6 painful laps. I know that feeling all too well, AKA the Global Rallycross race I was leading in Las Vegas in 2012. At least he didn’t have to deal with fire! Ha. Stoked for Andreas though, glad he came out of the Final ok!
My race at #EsteringRX ended at the Semi Final, got hit pretty hard by Janis Baumanis in Turn 2 on the 2nd lap which broke my suspension and ended any chance of getting into the final. I was stoked to have won my Q1 race on Saturday, but it was an uphill battle for me from there after a bad launch in Q2. That’s really tough at a racetrack which is all about how well you do on your launch!
